GATX Rail Europe is to supply 450 new tank cars to Rosneft Deutschland as the rail lessor expands its long-standing relationship with the German oil group and seeks to support flows of refined petroleum products across Europe.
The contract covers GATX’s type 1698 tank cars, with deliveries scheduled in three batches from September 2026. The final wagons are expected to enter service by the end of the second quarter of 2027.
The fleet will be commissioned at the PCK refinery in Schwedt, eastern Germany, and will primarily be used to transport gasoline, diesel and other light petroleum products. Cargoes will move from PCK, as well as the MiRO and Bayernoil refineries, to storage terminals serving customers in Germany and elsewhere in Europe.
The tank cars will be manufactured by Croatia’s Duro Dakovic, Slovakia’s Tatravagonka and WSO, GATX Rail Europe’s workshop in Ostróda, Poland.
The order underscores the continuing importance of rail to Europe’s refined-products supply chain, particularly as oil companies and logistics operators seek reliable alternatives for moving fuels between refineries, storage facilities and distribution centres.
Rosneft Deutschland is already an established customer of GATX, but the expansion will make it one of the rail lessor’s largest customers.

Rosneft Deutschland, formerly part of the Russian oil giant, is now under the control of the German government.
