New advanced biofuels plant planned by Emerald

Emerald Biofuels is set to build its first plant at a Dow Chemical Company site in Louisiana, US.

Emerald believes the refinery will ultimately process natural oils and animal fats into 85 million gallons of renewable diesel fuel per year, going towards helping oil companies meet a US government requirement of purchasing 21 billion gallons of advanced biofuels a year by 2022.

Emerald and Dow are finalising a site lease and a site services agreement for Dow to provide a number of services to support Emerald's operation. The site has ship, barge, rail and truck access and Emerald is capable of receiving and shipping by all four modes of transportation.

The plant is to also use processing technology developed by Honeywell International’s UOP and Italian refiner Eni SpA, which goes towards making Honeywell Green Diesel fuel from the same feedstocks already mentioned.
