GeorgiaSAF moves forward with commercial‑scale SAF development

CarbonCore Inc. has advanced plans for its GeorgiaSAF™ programme, confirming Bainbridge and Decatur County as the focus of development for a proposed commercial‑scale sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facility in Southwest Georgia.
The project aims to convert sustainably sourced woody biomass into aviation fuel for the Southeast and wider US market, creating a new long‑term industrial outlet for Georgia’s forestry sector.
The company is progressing site assembly, infrastructure planning, rail access, utilities and technical diligence with local and regional partners.
According to the document, the planned facility “is being configured with two production trains targeting approximately 20,000 barrels per day at full planned capacity,” though this remains a development target rather than committed production volume.
GeorgiaSAF is designed around Georgia’s established forestry industry, with the intention of building a durable supply chain for sustainably sourced woody biomass. CarbonCore says the project will connect rural forestry communities with one of the world’s largest aviation markets. As president and CEO Michael Mckenzie not ed: “Georgia doesn’t need to invent the ingredients for a sustainable aviation fuel industry. It already has the forests, the people, the logistics and one of the world’s great aviation markets.”
The development concept uses thermochemical conversion of woody biomass to produce synthesis gas, followed by Fischer–Tropsch processing and upgrading into finished fuels. Any emissions benefit will depend on final design, feedstock logistics and lifecycle assessment.
Bainbridge and Decatur County were selected for their proximity to forestry resources, rail infrastructure and regional logistics networks.
Rick McCaskill of the Development Authority of Bainbridge & Decatur County said the area’s forestry base and industrial infrastructure “provide a strong foundation for developments of this kind,” adding that progress through site assembly and diligence has been encouraging.
CarbonCore emphasises that site control, permitting, engineering, financing, feedstock arrangements and commercial agreements remain in progress. No construction start or operating date has been announced.
GeorgiaSAF is intended to form the first node in a repeatable, scalable SAF production platform across the United States, supporting rural economies while supplying lower‑carbon aviation fuel to major markets.
