In the US, renewable fuels company Cobalt Technologies and biorefinery technology firm American Process (API) have partnered to build an industrial-scale cellulosic biorefinery for the production of biobutanol.

In Argentina, 26% of the nations soya crop was used for the production of biodiesel, according to a study by the Consorcios Regionales de Experimentacion Agricola (CREA).
Argentina manufactured 2.6 million tonnes of biodiesel last year and as a result consumed 14 million tonnes of the total 55 million tonnes of soya cultivated.

In the US, Tidewater Biodiesel is one step closer towards building its biodiesel plant in the state of Virginia.
The company has been granted planning approval from the local commission. Construction can now get underway once the final approval is given by Chesapeake's city council.

Biodiesel producer Sirona Fuels began selling biodiesel produced from locally-grown feedstocks on 22 April 2011.
The move will see its customers purchase the fuel for $0.25 (€0.17) less per gallon than the cost of fossil diesel.

Poet has reduced the amount of water used in its ethanol plants by 411 million gallons a year compared to 2009 levels.
The news comes after a widespread installation of the company's Total Water Recovery technology, meaning Poet plants now utilise an average of 2.77 gallons of water per gallon of ethanol.

At the Port of Morrow in Oregon, US, cellulosic ethanol company ZeaChem's plant is over one-third complete.
The 40,000-gallon fermentation tanks are now in place, while work continues on the two-story operational facility.
