Zambia loses large biofuels project commitment
It has been reported that the Biofuels Association of Zambia (BAZ) described a move by China-based Kaid Biomass (KB) to pull out of the country as ‘unfortunate’.
KB, under the banner of Kaid Biomass Zambia, was due to undertake a $6 billion (€4.5 billion) investment programme in Nakonda and Isoka, but has called time on the project after four years.
‘This news is unfortunate and it is sad because the project was something that people in Nakonde and Isoka accepted,’ BAZ chairperson Thomson Sinkalawas quoted as saying.
KBZ executive VP Kumbukilina Phiri revealed the reason for the departure was down to the fact the amount of land which had been offered for the project was too small to justify the investment required and what had been spent.
