New Canadian bioethanol plant planned for Prince George site

The BC Hemp Corporation has revealed it will be building a $2 billion (€1.8 billion) biofuel plant on an industrial site in Prince George, British Columbia.
BC Hemp president Remi Balaj made the announcement during a live stream and added the company is looking to start construction in six to 12 months.
He said: “The bioethanol plant is going to cost to $2 billion (€1.8 billion). Production wise, we are planning to have around 60 to 120 million litres a year.”
Michael Fazakas, CEO of BC Hemp, added: “We will be harvesting the stalk of the hemp and make use of the hemicellulose within the hemp plant to produce ethanol.”
The new site could employ up to 2,500 people when it is fully functioning. The plant will produce medical and industrial grade ethanol used as a solvent, and as an additive to automotive gasoline.
Balaj added that they are also looking at possibilities of a new biofuels plant using grains.
The company also announced a $350 million (€319 million) hemp project on the Old Cariboo Highway and Johnson Road earlier this year.
