Jatoil boosts jatropha land holdings
In addition to the jatropha plantations held by the joint venture, Jatoil will plant a further 500 hectares next to the existing plots.
Throughout the next 12 months PT Jatoil Waterland will increase its landholding from 1,000 hectares to 10,000 hectares
Jatoil has committed to plant 500 hectares of additional land with jatropha curcas trees next to plots already held by PT Jatoil Waterland.
And within the upcoming weeks the firm will establish nurseries to cultivate seedlings of specially developed, highly productive strains of jatropha. It is expected that these seedlings will be planted during November later this year.
‘There are significant biofuel opportunities for us in Indonesia,’ said Phil Hodgson, Jatoil’s CEO. ‘We are in the process of moving senior staff from our Vietnam operations to help in Indonesia. The robust land access system that exists in central Java…coupled with the low cost of establishment, gives us confidence about making further investment there.’
Jatoil owns a 69.8735% share in PT Jatoil Waterland. The second stage of this JV will see a boost in the initial landholding from 1,000 hectares to 10,000 hectares, expected to be completed within 12 months’ time.
Eventually PT Jatoil Waterland aims to cover 100,000 hectares of jatropha.
