Indian ethanol experiences growth

India’s consumption of ethanol is expected to experience a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.5% between 2010 and 2013, a report says.

The research report ‘Emerging Biofuel Market India’, claims that the increased blend of ethanol in vehicle fuel combined with the high demand from the industrial sector has resulted in a period of fast growth and developments for the region.

The report has identified the mandatory biofuel usage policies and fiscal incentives as the main driving force behind this ethanol boom.

In addition to the mandates already in place, the Indian government is expected to introduce a 20% ethanol blend in all states between 2011 and 2012. However the E20 mandate will result in India relying on ethanol imports, as the target will be tough to meet.
