Countdown to annual biofuels conference in Brussels

The annual Biofuels International Conference and Expo is just over two months away with the industry taking centre stage in Brussels.
Decarbonisation, net-zero and energy security will be some of the hotly debated topics on the agenda at the Plaza Hotel on May 16-17.
Following on from the European Parliament’s recent target of 45% renewable energy consumption by 2030 and the European Union’s REPowerEU plan for energy independence, the biofuels sector is presented with an excellent opportunity to scale-up and show the world that it has a crucial role to play in today’s energy markets.
Last year, the event saw over 350 participants attend the three co-hosted events covering biofuels, biogas and biomass and May’s meeting promises to be even larger.
The event will bring together leading producers, suppliers, regulators and other engaged organisations over the two-day period. High-level speakers, experts in their field, will address a range of topical issues relating to the biofules sector.
To date, confirmed speakers include Shell, bp, Scandinavian Airlines, KLM, Neste, Gevo and Sasol.
Topics to be addressed will cover global efforts to upscale feedstocks for the production of biofuels; challenges and opportunities for SAF in the air freight industry; how are airlines working across the value chain to develop SAF production to meet supply needs at the right price; the role of biofuels in securing security of supply and outlooks for biodiesel and bioethanol markets to name a few.
