Codexis receives patent
Enzyme developer Codexis has been awarded a patent from the US Patent and Trademark Office which covers a component of the company’s enzymatic technology used for the production of cellulosic biofuels.
Codexis received US Patent Number 8,143,050: Recombinant Beta-Glucosidase Variants for Production of Soluble Sugars from Cellulosic Biomass and says that it will help the company to strengthen its competitive position in the biofuels market.
‘This patent covers an enzyme group essential in the conversion of cellulosic biomass to fermentable sugars, which can subsequently be used for the production of a wide range of cellulosic biofuels,’ says Peter Strumph, interim CEO.
This is not the first patent that Codexis has received – it also has patents covering the company’s CodeXyme Cellulase Enzymes and CodeEvolver, which relate to Codexis’ evolution technology platform – as well as other patents.
