B15 biodiesel rollout begins in strategic move to strengthen energy security
Malaysia has started implementing its B15 biodiesel mandate marking a significant step in strengthening national energy security amid ongoing global supply volatility.

The rollout will see the biodiesel blend in Peninsular Malaysia increase from B10 to B15, comprising 15% palm‑based Palm Methyl Ester (PME) and 85% petroleum diesel, with no engine modifications required for most diesel vehicles.

The Government views the transition as a two‑pronged strategy: reducing reliance on imported fossil diesel while boosting domestic demand for palm oil, a key national commodity.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi emphasised that the phased approach allows production to scale sustainably before moving toward higher blends such as B20 and potentially B50.

Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad confirmed that B15 implementation will require around 0.8 million tonnes of palm oil annually — well below Malaysia’s domestic surplus of four million tonnes — ensuring no impact on food-sector supply or export commitments.
