Driving innovation within the biofuels industry
Brittany Hook, a chemical engineer with Malaysia-based HutanBio speaks to Biofuels International about what attracted her to work in this innovative industry. What was your first job? My first job was as an Application Engineer for Nalco, monitoring and adjusting automation and chemical programs designed to save refinery and petrochemical plants money on corrosion, fouling and energy use in their process and water systems. It was there that I started seeing the impact of even small changes on large-scale industrial facilities and learning how to communicate concepts like Return on Investment and Value Proposition, as well as B2B sales strategy. What interested you about the biofuels industry? Biofuels are a very good "trailhead technology" to help decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors whilst minimizing disruption, and this was also an opportunity to get a little more direct with my impact on the world, rather than as a "sidekick" technology provider.
