Israel-based biofuels technology company HCL CleanTech will open its pilot plant and corporate office in Oxford, North Carolina, US.
HCL CleanTech raised $5.5 million (€4.1 million) in May 2009 in its Series A financing led by US venture capital firms Burrill & Co. and Khosla Ventures.

St1’s sixth plant will have a slightly different focus by using household and municipal waste as its feedstock.

According to the Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) the production of ethanol in 2010 is up compared to last year’s figures.
Data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) confirms that the production of ethanol has increased by 118,000 barrels per day (bpd) since January 2009 and reached approximately 818,000bpd in January this year.

A demonstration plant is now on the cards for Canada-based Woodland Biofuels after receiving C$4 million (€2.9 million) through the Innovation Demonstration Fund (IDF).

Based in Adamsville, Ohio, US firm Farmers’ Ethanol is planning an investment of $135 million (€100 million) to build a bioethanol refinery in Smederevo, Serbia.
