Ethanol plant fails to sell for more than starting bid

Both the ethanol and biodiesel global markets continued to grow in 2010 with biofuels production up 17%, compared to a 10% rise in 2009. This is according to a report on 2010 biofuel production by US research company Worldwatch Institute.
Ethanol remains the most widely produced biofuel; of the 105 billion litres produced in 2010, 86 billion litres was made up of ethanol.

At Amsterdam Airport, Schiphol and KLM have started fuelling some of their ground transport vehicles on 100% biodiesel (B100).
The move comes after both companies invested heavily in the introduction of biofuel-powered vehicles at the airport, as electrically powered vehicles are currently limited to certain vehicle types.

German airline Lufthansa has acquired jatropha oil from Jatenergy for use as bio-jet fuel in its trial of renewable jet fuel, which will be piloted in regular flights between Hamburg and Frankfurt.
The crude jatropha oil was supplied from Jatenergy's operations in Central Java, Indonesia, where it has partnered with PT Waterland International.

In Argentina, Q2 2011 biofuel output reached a monthly average of 209,486 tonnes, breaking the previous record.
This is a 38% increase compared to Q2 2010. In June 2011 production reached an all-time high of 219,000 tonnes, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses.

Organic Drive, a UK-based biodiesel producer, has opened its first biodiesel plant in Stourport, England, with plans to supply its product to major oil companies such as BP and Shell.

Nebraska, US-based BioSyn is looking to build a biodiesel plant in Bellevue but the development is still in the very early stages; the company still needs approval from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

In the US, Gavilon, a commodity management company, and Heron Lake BioEnergy, a Minnesota-based ethanol plant, entered into an agreement which took effect on 1 September.

The move is said to come following severe flooding in Queensland, which affected supplies for around six months.

In Hawaii, Hawaiian Electric and Hawai'i BioEnergy have agreed on a deal that will see Hawai'i BioEnergy supply biofuel to Hawaiian Electric's Kahe generating station.
The Hawaii Public Utilities Commission (PUC) will now review the contract. If it is approved, Hawai'i BioEnergy will provide the power station with 10 million gallons a year of biofuel for power production.
