A two-year pilot biofuels project in Whyalla, Australia has been given a location to set up shop by the local council.
The facility has been given two hectares at an industrial site to produce biofuels from algae feedstock thanks to ‘unanimous approval’ from the Whyalla City Council in January.

Thousands of gallons of ethanol leaked after a train derailment in southern Illinois, US just before the New Year.
Local fire chiefs estimated between 3,400 and 5,000 gallons of ethanol spilled from a 30,000 gallon tanker car before the leak was plugged. The low temperature was believed to have surpressed any vapour and no homes were evacuated.

A new study into the effects of global biofuels production on air pollution has shown negative results.

A new pilot plant for biofuels production is to be opened by the US-based LSU AgCenter Audubon Sugar Institute as the culmination of its sustainable bioproducts initiative this January.
