Vast and Be8 sign agreement to develop the biofuels market for shipping

Currently, the port ranks second in vessel traffic in Brazil. In 2024, more than 7,300 ships accessed the Açu.
“This new partnership with Vast allows us to work with biodiesel, which can be used in bunker fuel offered to ships and with our new product Be8 BeVant®, to advance the decarbonisation of port management operations,” said Erasmo Carlos Battistella, president of Be8.
“Be8 BeVant® was developed specifically to serve companies that consume large volumes of fossil fuels and are looking for a global solution to reduce emissions in the short term, replacing diesel 100%.”
“The Port of Açu plays a key role in fostering the decarbonisation of Brazil’s maritime sector. Vast aims to contribute through two main paths: one focused on providing low-carbon fuels and blends, and another by offering electrification alternatives for docked vessels—an initiative already being implemented since 2024 on tugboats operating at Vast’s Oil Terminal (T-Oil),” emphasised Eduardo Goulart, commercial director of Vast Infraestrutura.
The agreement outlines studies for Vast to provide the necessary infrastructure and connect Be8 with fuel distributors and clients at the Port of Açu to foster this emerging market.
