TotalEnergies announces major investments including for SAF at its Antwerp site

With a legacy spanning over 75 years, the Antwerp platform operates under an integrated refining and petrochemicals model, ensuring resilience and long-term viability.
"By continually adapting and investing in our Antwerp site, we are securing its future and maintaining its position as TotalEnergies’ most efficient refining and petrochemical platform in Europe," said Ann Veraverbeke, managing director of TotalEnergies Antwerp.
"Whether addressing market challenges or advancing decarbonisation and the energy transition, this platform is being reconfigured to remain competitive and continue to provide jobs for years to come."
As part of its commitment to decarbonisation, TotalEnergies is accelerating efforts at the Antwerp platform through a major green hydrogen initiative.
The company has entered into a tolling agreement with Air Liquide to secure 130 MW from a 200 MW electrolyser project, enabling the annual production of 15,000 tons of green hydrogen.
In addition, the Antwerp platform will support the decarbonisation of the aviation sector through the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
A first project, set to begin in 2025, will produce 50,000 tons of SAF annually using coprocessing technology, which integrates the simultaneous processing of hydrocarbons and biomass within existing refining units.
