RTFA calls for UK bioethanol to be included in SAF mandate
The Renewable Transport Fuel Association (RTFA) has urged the UK Government to amend its SAF mandate to allow crop‑based British bioethanol to qualify as an eligible feedstock.

RTFA argues that domestic bioethanol is no longer required for road‑fuel decarbonisation due to tariff‑free US imports displacing UK supply.

The organisation states that this creates an opportunity for British ethanol to be redirected into AtJ SAF production, supporting UK industry and strengthening national energy resilience.

RTFA emphasises that both ethanol and waste‑derived biodiesel feedstocks can be converted into aviation fuel, and that policy alignment is needed to unlock this transition.
