Petrobras and Vale have announced an agreement for the supply of products focused on competitiveness and advancing the decarbonisation agenda.
The agreement includes the use of renewable diesel in the mining company’s vehicles.
The signing ceremony took place on October 18 in Rio de Janeiro, attended by Petrobras President Magda Chambriard and Vale President Gustavo Pimenta.
The agreement outlines joint actions between the companies to assess business opportunities in low carbon initiatives, including, among other things, co-processed diesel with renewable content, natural gas, and bunker fuel with 24% renewable content.
Provided by Petrobras, renewable diesel is currently fuelling a locomotive that travels the route from Espírito Santo to Minas Gerais, as well as an off-road truck with a capacity of 214 tons operating at the Fábrica Nova mine in the Mariana Complex (MG).
“We are developing increasingly greener fuels and honouring our commitment to decarbonising our activities. The partnership with Vale further solidifies Petrobras's goal to enhance its productive capacity and logistical structure, delivering greener products to the market like Diesel R and reinforcing our decarbonisation strategy,” stated Petrobras president Magda Chambriard.
“We are very pleased to announce this extensive partnership with Petrobras, which brings benefits to both companies and creates value for Brazil,” said Vale president Gustavo Pimenta.
“The agreement reinforces Vale's commitment to promoting the decarbonization of its operations and offering solutions to reduce emissions for its clients, leveraging Brazil’s competitive edge in renewable fuels.”
