First biobutanol plant planned for Russia

State-owned Russian Technologies is set to build a biobutanol production facility in Russia, which, when finished, will be the first of its kind in the nation.

Construction in the Irkutsk region in Siberia will commence in March 2011 before it starts manufacturing the biofuel from wood chips and other timber by-products.

‘As far as timber, we have enough of it to produce biofuels,’ commented president Dmitry Medvedev.
