China to welcome world’s largest cellulosic biorefinery

M&G Chemicals' subsidiary M&G International has entered into a joint venture with Anhui Guozhen to build the world's largest cellulosic ethanol biorefinery in Fuyang City, Anhui, China.

The company, Anhui M&G Guozhen Green Refinery, will use Proesa technology licensed by Beta Renewables to convert between 970,000-1,300,000 metric tonnes per year of agricultural residues into cellulosic ethanol, glycols and by-products such as lignin.

The globe's largest cellulosic biorefinery will receive a total joint venture investment of approximately $325 million (€242.5 million).

Li Wei, chairman of Guozhen Group said this is a very important project not only for Guozhen Group and M&G but also for Fuyang City as it will create a green and sustainable environment for Fuyang and bolster the local economy.
