15mgy biodiesel plant coming to LaHarpe

The city of LaHarpe in Illinois, US, will soon be home to Bio-NRG’s new $38 million (€26.7 million) biodiesel plant.

The plant is still in the development stages, however Bio-NRG is looking to start building the facility in 2011. With an estimated completion time of between 12 and 15 months, the plant should be up and running by 2012.

Bio-NRG will operate the plant under the name LaHarpe-NRG LLC, which will produce 15 million gallons of biodiesel a year when it reaches full-scale production.

The project has been well received by the local residents and in addition, is receiving financial support from state and federal governments. Both the USDA and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity have awarded the project with a grant, while the US DoE has also been reported to be involved in the project.
