State-owned Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) plans to develop at least three ethanol plants in collaboration with other companies.
The plants will be set up in the southern province of Binh Phuoc, the northern province of Phu Tho, and at Dung Quat in the central province of Quang Ngai.

Texas-based Global Alternative Fuels will expand its El Paso biodiesel plant from 5 mgy to 15 mgy.
The company is finalising the engineering for the $12 million (€9.5 million) expansion.

Boston, US-based Mascoma’s demonstration facility in Rome, New York, started producing ethanol from non-food cellulosic biomass on 25 February.
The plant has a production capacity of 200,000 gallons of cellulosic ethanol a year.

Biodiesel start-up company SarTec has announced it expects its production facility in Minnesota, US, to begin operations in Q2 this year.

An early morning fire at Hardin County Fuel in Texas, US, caused an estimated $300,000 (€234,000) in equipment and building damage and has halted biofuels production.
Nearly all of the facility’s operating equipment was destroyed, along with the building it was being housed in on Friday 20 February.

US governors expect regulators will soon boost the allowed blend rate for ethanol in petrol to 13% from 10%.
