Norwegian airlines and the Norwegian Armed Forces flew using SAF at Ålesund Airport Vigra in a game changing voluntary initiative put together to enable and develop the market for renewable aviation fuel.
As supporters of the initiative, Fly Green Alliance (FGA) was in attendance at the in-person aircraft fuelling event and flew back with the team to Oslo on the 15% SAF blend added into the Boeing 737 800 tanks, supplied by St1 Nordic Oy.
Chief of Defense Eirik Kristoffersen, Per Arne Johnsen from Forsvarsmateriel, CEO Henrikkie Talvitie at the biofuel producer St 1 and CEO Geir Karlsenw at Norwegian opened the event to commemorate the first delivery of SAF in this new SAF buying approach.
Sarah Wilkin, Fly Green’s CEO said: "This Norwegian SAF initiative is the start of developing contracting approaches and SAF aggregation methodologies which investors, fuel suppliers and travel buyers can replicate.
“FGA have been happy to support the dissemination of this work as part our industry level commitments to growing the SAF market, enabling development and growing low carbon initiatives in travel.
“FGA as a market making alliance, and as new business model developers, see it's a great example to showcase, and FGA commends Norwegian's transparent approach which enables room for collaboration and innovative solutions. It was great to see this, 18 months in the making, initiative in action supported by senior stakeholders today. Congratulations to the team."
