Gasrec and Volvo enter vehicle fuel partnership
UK biofuel supplier Gasrec will work with global heavy-duty truck manufacturer Volvo Trucks to help its clients cut haulage costs while reducing carbon emissions.
The two companies will co-operate commercially and technically to increase the availability and promote the use of gas vehicles in the UK. Gasrec states that, when substituted for diesel, bio-LNG can cut fuel costs and CO2 by around 20%.
Gasrec supplies bio-LNG throughout Europe via a blend of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquid biomethane (LBM). The LBM is produced from organic matter, such as household food waste from brands including B&Q, Sainsbury’s and Tesco.
‘We believe that the viability of carbon dioxide-free transportation is not limited by technology, but rather by the availability of alternative fuels,’ says Lennart Pilskog, director of public affairs. ‘With Gasrec we believe that we can enhance and speed up the introduction of LNG and LBM to the transport business.’
As covered previously by Biofuels International, Gasrec is currently developing the UK’s first network of open-access bio-LNG refuelling stations, which is set for completion in 2015.
