Xergi and MMPA sign biomass deal

Xergi has signed a deal with the Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (MMPA)to build a new biogas plant in the US which will feature gas-fired CHP engines that will output 8MW of electrical power.

Hometown BioEnergy, the name of the plant, will be built in Le Sueur, Minnesota and will produce biogas from waste such as agriculture and food, including sweet corn, potato waste and chicken manure.

‘This plant is – even by international standards – advanced and sizeable. We hope that it will contribute to paving the way for new business opportunities in the US,’ says Xergi MD Jørgen Ballermann.

Xergi will help throughout the construction of the plant, advising Avant throughout the commissioning. One of the features of the plant will include a Flexfeed system which will pre-treat the biomass before it is put into the anaerobic digester.

A SCADA system will also be installed which will help to control and monitor the operations within the plant.

Project director Kelsey Dahlen says: ‘Hometown BioEnergy will help MMPA meet the state-mandated requirement to provide 25 percent of our electricity from renewable sources by 2025.’

This will be the fifth Xergi plant to be built in the US.
