US biofuels feedstock producer awarded first RBS certification

Global Clean Energy Holdings (GCEH) has become the first biofuels feedstock producer in North America to obtain RSB sustainability certification.

The RBS certification is approved by the European Commission as proof of compliance with the Renewable Energy Directive (2009/28/EC) and this award covers all three of GCEH’s jatropha farms in Mexico.

‘We are delighted that GCEH has embraced the RSB principles and criteria,’ says CEO of RSB Services Foundation Peter Ryus.  ‘Its commercial success demonstrates that efficient and thoughtful implementation of sustainable practices protects the community as well as the environment and yields positive business results.’

The RSB system allows farmers, feedstock processors and biofuel producers to demonstrate that their operations comply with ambitious yet practical safeguards including the protection of natural or rare ecosystems, food security, respect of human rights to land, water and decent work conditions and the management of water resources.
