UAE’s first commercial SAF plant advances — MENA Biofuels moves forward with Fujairah project
The Abu Dhabi-based renewable-fuels firm MENA Biofuels has announced progress in developing what will be the United Arab Emirates’ first commercial sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production plant, located in Fujairah.
According to the company’s recent statement, the project has secured key internal approvals and is advancing toward final engineering and construction phases.
MENA Biofuels states the plant will enable the UAE to produce SAF at scale, supporting both domestic aviation demand and export potential — an important milestone as the region pushes to meet growing global demand for low-carbon aviation fuels.
This development underscores the increasing international commitment to scaling up SAF supply chains, especially in regions with strong logistics and export infrastructure.
It also signals growing ambition in Gulf states to diversify energy supply beyond fossil fuels and to support the aviation sector’s transition to greener alternatives.
Provisional data released by the Department for Transport (#DfT) showed that verified renewable fuels supplied to the UK reached 2.4 billion #litres in the first 10 months of 2025.
