Stellantis embarks on HVO Aurora trial

Stellantis, in collaboration with SPH3, presented the Citroën Berlingo, a flagship vehicle for the HVO Aurora Trial, at its Vigo production centre.
This project is travelling across Europe in a Citroën Berlingo and a Fiat Ducato to demonstrate the benefits of HVO, a renewable fuel produced from used cooking oil and animal fats.
It aims to offer businesses and individuals an immediate and effective alternative for significantly reducing full cycle CO₂ emissions without needing to change vehicles, as all Stellantis diesel vehicles are fully compatible with this fuel.
Carried out in collaboration with SP3H, a French company specialising in smart sensors for smart fuels, the HVO Aurora Programme monitors and documents HVO usage estimating CO₂ emissions in real time.
The HVO Aurora Trial originated from Stellantis' Star*Up programme, an internal platform that fosters innovative ideas proposed by employees.
This case exemplifies how collaboration between teams, technology partners, and industry can accelerate the transition to responsible mobility. The Citroën Berlingo not only represents an advanced technical solution but also a circular economy model by reusing waste to generate energy.
The European tour will continue its journey through other key cities, with the aim of gathering data, sharing experiences, and expanding knowledge about the use of fuels from the circular economy in the process toward more sustainable mobility.
