SkyNRG secures funding for major SAF plant in the Netherlands

Once fully operational, the plant is set to produce 100,000 tonnes of SAF annually, alongside 35,000 tonnes of sustainable co-products such as bio-based propane, butane and naphtha.
The facility will utilise the hydroprocessed esters and fatty acids (HEFA) process, supported by Topsoe’s HydroFlex technology.
Initially, the SAF manufactured at DSL-01 is expected to deliver lifecycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions of around 80%, compared with conventional jet fuel. Over time, this figure is projected to exceed 90%, as greater supplies of Dutch renewable energy come online and dependence on natural gas declines.
The development is expected to reinforce the region’s growing green industrial cluster, supporting the wider sustainability objectives of Groningen Seaports and the Province of Groningen.
With all regulatory approvals secured and project and financing agreements finalised, this milestone marks the conclusion of a seven-year development phase.
It also signals SkyNRG’s transition from a company primarily focused on sourcing and distributing SAF to one that owns and operates its own production facilities.
Construction is now under way, with operations anticipated to commence in mid-2028. KLM – Royal Dutch Airlines will serve as the principal purchaser of the fuel produced at DSL-01.
The agreed volumes are intended to support the airline’s sustainability strategy and ensure compliance with European environmental regulations.
