Siemens and CAPHENIA accelerate scale-up of SAF

news item image
Siemens and CAPHENIA have entered a strategic partnership to speed up the industrial production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), a low‑carbon alternative to conventional kerosene that can cut aviation emissions by up to 80%.
The collaboration positions Siemens as CAPHENIA’s preferred provider of automation, digitalisation, and process‑control technologies, supporting the commercial rollout of CAPHENIA’s innovative plasma‑based fuel production systems.
At the heart of CAPHENIA’s approach is its Plasma‑Boudouard Reactor, a high‑temperature process that converts biomethane into synthesis gas at around 1,500°C.
This synthesis gas is then used to produce synthetic kerosene and other renewable fuels. The companies aim to standardise this technology so it can be deployed globally, enabling scalable and flexible SAF production facilities.
Siemens will contribute advanced digital tools, including automation systems, drive technologies, and digital twins, to optimise plant performance and accelerate commercial readiness. By combining CAPHENIA’s reactor technology with Siemens’ industrial expertise, the partnership seeks to support the aviation sector’s decarbonisation efforts and meet the rapidly growing demand for sustainable fuels worldwide.
