Petrobas and Vale agree to use B15 in mining operations

The agreement involves the supply of S10 diesel, produced by Petrobras, with the addition of the mandatory biodiesel component, currently at 15%.
The agreement also foresees opportunities for low-carbon business development, such as the possibility of buying and selling Diesel R (diesel with renewable content) and potential negotiations for the supply of HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil).
Since 2023, the two companies have been collaborating on business partnerships for the development of low-carbon solutions.
In 2024, a cooperation agreement was established, including tests of Diesel R5 (5% renewable content, in addition to the mandatory 15% biodiesel) and bunker fuel with a 24% renewable component.
The commercial partnership with Vale is part of Petrobras' strategy to get closer to the end consumers of its products.
According to Petrobras' president Magda Chambriard, "establishing this direct contact allows the company to better understand consumer needs and be more assertive in building solutions that generate value for customers and society.
“By offering high-performance fuels that also contribute to companies' decarbonisation goals, Petrobras improves its logistics structure and production capacity for internationally relevant clients."
"We are very pleased to strengthen our partnership with Petrobras, which generates value for both companies and for Brazil.
“This contract consolidates a relationship of trust and creates space for us to explore, together, innovative solutions that contribute to making our operations increasingly efficient and sustainable," said Vale's CEO, Gustavo Pimenta.
"It is another step that reinforces our long-term vision of decarbonising Vale's operations, thus taking advantage of Brazil's competitive advantage in renewable fuels," he added.
