Mott MacDonald reports on Thailand renewable energy success

Management, engineering and development consultancy Mott MacDonald has completed a report on Thailand’s eight-year programme working to promote the renewable energy sector, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented through the Energy for Environment Foundation.

The programme which includes a biomass energy focus has seen by many in the industry as significantly influencing renewable energy promotion in the country.

‘It is anticipated that the majority of near-term renewable energy in the country will be generated by biomass-fuelled projects,’ Gene M Owens, Mott MacDonald’s project director, says.

‘Our report demonstrates how the project has led to the progression of renewable energy policies and regulation in the country as well as specifically contributing towards setting the ‘adder’ tariffs for biomass energy, wind and solar.’
