Mission NewEnergy receives ISCC
Sustainable biofuels producer Mission NewEnergy has been awarded International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) for its jatropha contract farming model.
Mission's jatropha business is the first of its kind to receive the ISCC. In order to obtain the certification, some of Mission's jatropha contract farmers in India underwent intensive audits to evaluate the sustainability of their farming practices and processes, as well as traceability of product produced within the supply chain.
Mission is now able to go on and obtain certification for its entire contract farming operation.
Mission has a total of 194,000 acres of planted jatropha, which is enough to ensure a 30-year supply of around some 22 million barrels jatropha oil.
At around $52 (€37) per barrel, jatropha is currently competitively priced against crude oil.
