Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team achieved significant sustainability progress during the 2025 season, reinforcing its ambition to become one of the world’s most sustainable professional sports teams.
Away from the circuit, sustainability gains were impactful. Team members at Brackley in the UK reduced commuting by approximately 360,000 miles through an internal car-sharing initiative, equivalent to 99,000 laps of Silverstone Circuit.
Logistics operations also took a major step forward. The team transported its W16 race cars to the Dutch Grand Prix using an all-electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600, becoming the first Formula One team to move its race cars to a European event using electric power.
Across the European season, the expanded use of HVO100 biofuel avoided more than 410 tonnes of CO₂e, comparable to the annual carbon sequestration capacity of 33,600 mature mangrove trees.
On track, the team made Formula One history by debuting a bio-based carbon fibre composite on the rear brake duct wheel shields of the #63 W16 at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix – a first for the sport.
The component subsequently completed more than 7,000 kilometres of competitive racing, contributing to victories in Singapore, a podium finish in Las Vegas, and top-three Sprint Race results in Austin, São Paulo and Qatar.
Developed in close collaboration with the team’s composites supply chain, the innovation demonstrated that sustainable materials can withstand the extreme demands of Formula One competition.
The season also saw the launch of the Blue Carbon Collective with PETRONAS, funding mangrove restoration research in Brazil and Malaysia, and a partnership with Motorsport UK to introduce sustainable fuel into British karting, cutting emissions by 55 per cent in one championship class.
Bradley Lord, Team Representative, said the team was “energised by what is to come in 2026” and determined to continue raising standards across sustainability, inclusion and social impact.
Head of Sustainability Alice Ashpitel added that the application of bio-based carbon fibre to the W16 marked a particularly significant milestone.
Together, these initiatives underline Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team’s commitment to engineering a more sustainable future for motorsport.
