Construction starts on sugar development in Laos
Hoang Anh Gia Lai of Vietnam has broken ground on a renewable energy project in Laos’ Attapeu province.
Costing in the region of $100 million (€74.3 million) to build, the development includes a sugar mill, a 30,000 tonne per year ethanol plant, a 30MW thermal power plant and a fertiliser plant.
Around 20,000 jobs will become available for the local people when the large-scale sugar facility is up and running.
Vietnam’s deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and the deputy Prime Minister of Laos, Somsavat Lengsavath attended the groundbreaking ceremony.
