Brazil’s hydrous ethanol exports dip

Brazil's Centre-South ethanol producers sold a total of 592 million litres (156 million gallons) of hydrous ethanol in the first half of October, declining by 15.94% compared to the last two weeks of September, official trade data shows.

According to local sugarcane industry association Unica, the sales decline can be attributed to the fewer working days in the period in review, lower exports to the North-Northeast and a possible slowdown in consumption caused by an increase in prices.

Anhydrous ethanol producers sold around 391million litres. Around 31 million litres of the biofuel were intended for export while 983 billion litres were sold on the domestic market.

Around 1.40 billion litres of ethanol were produced in the first two weeks of October, including 664.7 million litres of anhydrous and 740 million litres of hydrous ethanol.

According to Unica, since the beginning of the sugarcane harvest back in April and up until October 16, the total volume of ethanol produced in the country's Centre-South region was 21.27 billion litres.
