Boeing makes $1 million investment in Brazilian sustainable aviation fuel industry

Aerospace company Boeing will invest $1 million (€880,000) in Brazil’s sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) industry.

In an attempt to help the country develop this nascent industry, Boeing’s investment will focus on initiatives that maximise social, economic and environmental benefits to local communities that are developing feedstock used in the production of SAF.

This investment adds to $1 million invested by Boeing last year.

“Brazil is a biofuel powerhouse and we believe this leadership can translate into benefits for small farmers and communities at the forefront of the multi-feedstock supply chain supporting biojet fuel production in the country,” said Marc Allen, senior vice-president of Boeing.

Boeing plans to collaborate with World Wide Fund for Nature and the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB) to identify small Brazilian farming communities with potential to provide biomass for SAF production.

Producers will be certified using sustainability indicators that drive social benefits, including income generation, solid labour practices and food security.

This new investment builds on Boeing’s commitment to supporting and developing Brazil’s aviation and aerospace ecosystem through education and training programmes, research and development initiatives, as well as industry partnerships.

“Over the past 10 years, Boeing has invested more than $2 million in community projects in Brazil,” added Allen. “Brazil is a leader in the global aerospace industry and Boeing is committed to working with our local partners to ensure it remains at the forefront of innovation for generations to come.”
