BlueFire finalises EPC contract

In the US Wanzek Construction, a wholly owned subsidiary of speciality contractor MasTec, has been selected by BlueFire Renewables to build its cellulosic ethanol plant located in Fulton, Mississippi.

The $296 million (€213 million) engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract was signed in early October 2010 and includes around $100 million for the facility’s biomass plant.

BlueFire Renewables can now progress with the US DoE and US Department of Agriculture loan guarantee programmes, as the EPC contract was the final significant agreement to be finalised.

CEO of BlueFire Renewables Arnold Klann confirms: ‘Having recently announced off-take feedstock agreements for our Fulton, Mississippi plant, BlueFire Renewables has now satisfied all stated requirements to move forward on an agreement with either the DoE or USDA for a loan guarantee to complete financing of the project.’ He continued: ‘BlueFire now stands poised to finalise the government negotiations and affect the financing and construction of this commercial-sized cellulosic ethanol plant.’

‘BlueFire’s propietry technologies, which convert non-food cellulosic waste into fuel, should bring environmentally friendly facilities and increase long-term employment to the state of Mississippi,’ said Jose Mas, CEO at MasTec.
