The presidential election debate has hardly been strong on policy signals after all and judging how the new president may address the role of biodiesel over the next four years is far from easy.
The best starting point, therefore, is to acknowledge the continued and impressive march by US biodiesel producers towards their 6 billion gallon output target which is set for delivery in 2030.
According to Paul Winters, director of public affairs and federal communications for Clean Fuels Alliance America, the biodiesel production total to the end of August this year had already moved beyond the 3 billion gallon figure, leaving the industry comfortably on track to exceed a 4 bl/gallon output in 2023.
“With the current balance of imports and exports, the market is still growing,” he said, adding that consumption in 2024 could top 5 billion.
“We’re well ahead of schedule to reach our vision, but it’s always a task to maintain policy support to ensure that growth.”
