Bayer and Neste have finalised a commercial agreement to jointly scale Bayer’s newgold® winter canola as a dedicated feedstock for renewable diesel and SAF production in the Southern Great Plains of the United States.
The partnership aims to expand winter canola acreage, providing lower‑carbon‑intensity oilseed supply to meet rapidly growing biofuels demand, projected to reach around 40 billion gallons globally by 2040.
The high‑protein meal co‑product will be sold into animal feed markets, improving land utilisation and offering farmers an additional revenue stream.
Bayer plans to launch newgold® hybrids from 2027, featuring winter‑hardiness, TruFlex® herbicide tolerance and pod‑shatter resistance.
Neste sees the collaboration as a way to build robust value chains for novel raw materials, enabling rapid scaling of renewable feedstocks in one of its key markets and supporting both farm incomes and energy‑sector decarbonisation.
