Vietnam’s automakers rally behind nationwide E10 biofuel rollout
Vietnam’s major automakers have publicly endorsed the country’s transition to E10 gasoline, offering reassurance to motorists as the biofuel becomes mandatory nationwide.

From 1 June, all unleaded petrol in Vietnam must now contain 10% ethanol, marking a significant step in the nation’s green energy strategy.

Leading manufacturers including Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi and Suzuki have confirmed that the vast majority of vehicles produced from the late 1990s onwards are fully compatible with E10.

Toyota stated that all models manufactured from 1997 can safely use the fuel without affecting performance, safety or maintenance costs, while Honda and Hyundai similarly reported no adverse impact on engine durability or driving experience.

The rollout follows years of preparation, including earlier nationwide adoption of E5 biofuel in 2018 and extensive pilot sales of E10 in major cities from 2025. Fuel distributors such as Petrolimex and PVOIL have already switched entirely to E10 RON95 across their networks.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade emphasises that E10 supports emissions reduction, strengthens energy security and reduces reliance on imported fossil fuels — key priorities amid global market volatility.

Automakers’ coordinated statements aim to ease consumer concerns, with officials noting that drivers are unlikely to notice any meaningful difference in performance when switching to E10.
