The US Department of Energy is handing out $650 million (€479 million) in loans for new biofuels refineries as part of the government’s overall $17.5 billion (€12.9 billion) plan to support 18 clean energy projects around the country.

A new 30 million gallon a year biorefinery is to be built in Port Arthur, Texas, following a deal between Endicott Biofuels (EBF) and KMTEX.

Brazilian ethanol producer Copersucar has partnered with the JAG – Jamal Al-Ghurair Group to form a new shipping company which will deliver ethanol and sugar around the world.
The two companies will hold a 50% share in the new business, Copa Shipping Company, exporting 600 million litres of ethanol and five million tonnes of sugar throughout its first year of operation.

Lincoln Park Capital Fund has agreed to invest up to $10 million (€7.3 million) into BlueFire Renewables, a producer of renewable fuels via non-food cellulosic wastes.
The investment, which will be spread out over 30 months, will go towards new developments by BlueFire, improving its processing capabilities.

UK-based alternative energy company Goes on Green has acquired a biodiesel plant in the Netherlands.
Located in Sluiskil, the 250,000 tonne-a-year facility was acquired by BNP Paribas Leasing Solutions.

Between March and September 2011 Thailand's government will launch an E95 bus fleet trial to test the viability of replacing the current diesel- and LNG-fuelled buses with a 95% ethanol blend.
