USDA awards funding for 16 new projects

In the US Tom Vilsack, Agriculture Secretary, has chosen 16 projects across 10 states to receive funding.

Together the projects will be awarded with a total of $8.5 million (€6.2 million) in financial support through the Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant Program (REDLG), which is administered by USDA Rural Development.

Of these 10 projects, over $1.8 million will be awarded to five projects located in the state of Iowa.

Among the Iowa-based projects to receive funding is energy company Heartland Power Cooperative.

The company will receive $740,000, which will aid the construction of a biodiesel production plant near Forest City. 16 jobs will be created at the site.
