US ethanol exports to reach record level
The ethanol industry is expecting to export a record amount of ethanol in 2014, reports Nebraska Ethanol Board.
As low carbon fuel standards continue to be implemented worldwide, this increases the ongoing demand for ethanol. Though this increase helps US ethanol producers ensure maximum profit by having an alternative method for selling, local experts are concerned about the effect this surge could have on the market.
Todd Sneller, Nebraska Ethanol Board administrator says: 'It's just not very smart to be encouraging these sort of regulatory models that force this sort of inefficiency and added costs to the market. It just simply doesn't make very good sense from a public policy standpoint and an efficiency of transportation standpoint.'
The US imports almost 400 million gallons of ethanol per year, mainly from Brazil.
