Thailand delays B5 launch

B5 biodiesel will not be available to the people of Thailand until the end of January next year, after flooding in the southern region is thought to affect palm production.

The energy ministry has delayed the introduction of B5 to petrol stations from 1 January 2011 to mid- to late January.

Energy minister Wannarat Charnnukul believes that the introduction of B5 may have been scheduled too early, claiming that it would be the holiday season and could cause confusion and delays at petrol stations nationwide.

Charnnukul expects there to be larger amounts of palm available to serve the B5 mandate later on in the New Year. The mandate currently stands at a 3% biodiesel blend.
