Tanzania building 60 new biogas plants

Over 60 new biogas plants will be opened in Tanzania, in the Tanga region, by June this year.

The plants are coming online with the help of the Tanzania Domestic Biogas Program in Kilindi, Handeni and Korogwe, as well as the districts of Pangani and Muheza.

Tanga District Commissioner Ibrahim Msengi says five plants are already in use in the region.

Biogas serves as a cheap raw material for rural people and helps to reduce environmental pollution.

The Tanga region in particular is ripe for biogas manufacturing due to the wide availability of the raw materials needed such as animal manure and sisal waste.
