Sunoco to provide NASCAR with E15

With E15 now approved for vehicles with model years 2007 upwards in the US, transportation fuel provider Sunoco has announced that it will supply NASCAR with its new fuel – Sunoco Green E15 – in NASCAR’s three national touring series for the 2011 season.

As the new official fuel of NASCAR, Sunoco Green E15 will replace Sunoco 260 GTX. Starting in 2011 the new fuel will be used by every car and truck in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

Sunoco Green E15, which is a corn-based ethanol, will be blended with traditional fuel at Sunoco’s fuel facility located in Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania, while the company’s ethanol production facility in Fulton, New York will produce some of the E15 required.

The new fuel will be pumped directly from tankers at the track, rather then from on-site underground storage tanks.

‘We know first hand what it takes to produce high-performance, ethanol-blended fuels – almost every drop of Sunoco gasoline sold today contains ethanol,’ said Cynthia Archer, VP, marketing and development, at Sunoco. ‘We look forward to highlighting the efforts of the whole racing community to transition to Sunoco Green E15 in time for the Daytona 500 – from its manufacture all the way to the racetrack,’ she said.
