Stagecoach reduces 61,000 tonnes of CO₂ with Dieselite
By using Dieselite, Stagecoach has achieved a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions across its bus fleet.
During the year, Stagecoach achieved an annual CO₂ reduction of 61,261 tonnes compared with standard fossil diesel. The savings were achieved across 7,000 buses in 18 regions.
Argent Energy entered into a fuel supply agreement with Stagecoach to support the transition of its diesel-powered fleet to a higher biodiesel blend. Dieselite is now supplied across 108 depots in England, Scotland and Wales, forming part of Stagecoach’s wider decarbonisation strategy.
Greg Ritt, group head of sustainability at Stagecoach, said “Our aim is to decarbonise our business, with fleet electrification being the goal, but this transition takes time. That’s where biofuel becomes our bridge.
“Sustainable change requires systems-thinking and key to that is collaboration with stakeholders. Working with Argent Energy, Dieselite helps us cut emissions quickly while planning long‑term EV investment.”
Dickon Posnett, corporate affairs director at Argent Energy, said “This collaboration demonstrates how renewable fuels such as Dieselite can achieve real, measurable reductions in carbon emissions, now.
“We fully support net-zero ambitions but, like Stagecoach, we want to see any diesel-engined vehicles on the roads over the next years or decades to be using the maximum amount of renewable fuel and reducing emissions, without it costing more than normal diesel.”
