Shell, Ensus, Argent and GEA Biodiesel representatives to speak at 10th Biofuels International Conference

The Biofuels International Conference, which takes place in Edinburgh, Scotland, has the most impressive speaker line-up and agenda to date – all designed to bring the industry together.

The event, which takes place from 4-5th October,  brings together biodiesel and ethanol producers (both first and second generation), advanced technology providers, plant contractors, oil majors, regulators, feedstock suppliers, storage terminal operators and industry associations.

Argent Energy, Shell, GEA Biodiesel, and S&P Global Platts have already joined the leading summit, which will provide participants with long-term perspectives on market trends and updates on legislation.

This is the first time the event will be held in partnership with the Bioenergy Insight Conference & Expo.

Topics at the event this year will include latest updates on the anti-dumping regulations for Argentinean biodiesel and the impact on EU biofuels market, an analysis of the RED proposals, a look at feedstock and their pricing dynamics, and securing finance for expansions.

Join key speaker Rob Wakely, head of Low Carbon Fuels Division, Energy Technology and International Directorate at the UK’s Department for Transport (DfT), as he discusses the UK’s advanced biofuels strategy through to 2030 on Day One.  While Andrew Murfin, general manager for Advanced Biofuels at Shell, will speak about investing in advanced biofuels on Day One.

Maintaining the international emphasis will be Alfredo Langesfeld, managing director of GEA Biodiesel, who will give an update on Argentinean biofuels producers & export levels. US-based Chris Wilcox, VP for business development at Gevo, will give a talk on replacing fossil-based hydrocarbons on Day One.

Meanwhile, Tim Worledge, editorial director at Platts Agriculture, S&P Global Platts, will address delegates on Day Two and give an analysis of the European biofuels market, which will include pricing and trading.

Looking towards the future will be Robin Vercruse, VP of Policy and Environment at the Fuel Freedom Foundation, who will discuss the policy outlook for biofuels in the US. While Yuan-Sheng, analyst at Lux Research, will consider ‘the dawn of a new era in global biofuel capacity expansion’.

Speaking about last year’s event, which took place in Ghent, Kevin McGeeney, CEO at SCB Group, said: “The reason I keep coming back is that the event attracts an audience of people who are very active in the biofuels space.

“There were therefore very few uncommitted people involved in Ghent. As a result, whenever I moved from one group to another during networking sessions I always ended up talking to someone who had been in the industry for a considerable period of time and had a deep knowledge of a specific part of the biofuels business.”
